Davor Vagić, MD, PhD

Vanja Bašić Kes, MD, PhD

Professor Vanja Bašić Kes, MD, PhD obtained her M.D. with thesis honours at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb (Croatia). She specialized in Neurology and subsequently obtained a Masters and a Doctorate degree in Clinical Neurology (Ph.D.). Her professional training included Fellowship in Neurology at the King’s College Hospital in London, United Kingdom and at the Weill Cornell in Salzburg, Austria. Professor Bašić Kes holds her professional appointments at the University of Zagreb (School of Dental Sciences), and University of Osijek (School of Medicine), Croatia, where she has been engaged as Professor and Assistant Professor of Neurology, respectively. She carries out clinical work and research, and teaches at graduate and postgraduate levels, and serves as regular Member of the National Croatian Scientific Advisory Board. She is the principal investigator of several major international studies on multiple sclerosis, rare diseases in neurology and on safe implementation of stroke treatments in Eastern Europe. She is also a Senior Associate of the Faculty of the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Professor Bašić Kes has been appointed Head of University Department of Neurology and Lead of Neuroimmunology and Neurogenetics Unit, at the Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Centre. Her professional highlight is the establishment of the Referent Centre for the Management of Acute and Chronic Pain, and the Referent Centre for Neuroimmunology and Neurogenetics, at the University Department of Neurology, both acknowledged by the Croatian Ministry of Health. Prof. Bašić Kes is the leading expert in the field of neuroimmunology and neurogentics. Her current research interest focuses on the remyelination, recovery and novel treatment options in multiple sclerosis. She implemented the Croatian Guidelines for the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis and launched the first international biannual Neuroimmunology and Neuroimmunology congress. Professor Bašić Kes serves as the President of the Croatian Society for Neurovascular Disorders, the President of the Croatian Neuroimmunology and Neurogenetics Society, the President of the Croatian Society for Pain and the President of the Croatian Society for Stroke. She is also an Honorary Member of numerous professional associations and advisory boards, both national and international. Prof. Bašić Kes has published more than 300 articles in scientific journals, authored or co-authored several books and edited a number of others. She is also a member of editorial and advisory board and deputy editor of the Acta Clinica Croatica journal.

Boris Ružić, MD, PhD

Boris Ružić was born in 1957. in Rijeka, where he graduated from Medical School, University of Rijeka. He passed Board exam in urology in 1993. and since then works as a urologist at the Department of Urology, UHC “Sestre milosrdnice”, Zagreb. He subspecialised urologic oncology and andrology. He completed his postgraduate studies in urology at the Medical School, University of Zagreb. He acquired the title Masters of science in 2002. and defended his doctoral thesis (PhD) in 2003. He became research associate in 2004. at the Medical University of Zagreb where he was elected teaching assistant in 2011. and assistant professor in 2015. He also developed academic career abroad as assistant professor at the Medical School, University of Mostar in 2007, and associate professor in 2011. Prof. Ružić holds lectures at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb since 2009. as a college professor. He holds title Primarius since 2004.
As of 2015. he has been appointed Head of the Department of Urology, UHC “Sestre milosrdnice”, Zagreb.
Prior to his current position at the Department of Urology prof. Ružić held several positions: Head of the Endourology Division and Deputy Head of the Department. He served as an Assistant Director for healthcare quality of UHC “Sestre milosrdnice for four years. Prof. Ružić was trained in internationally recognized institutions abroad and at home. He authored and co-authored 90 scientific and professional papers in international and national peer-reviewed journals and worked on four scientific projects. He participated in the organization of numerous scientific and professional conferences as a member or chairman of the Organizing Committee. The Assembly and the president of the Croatian Medical Association, awarded him three times in the recognition of his outstanding contribution in fostering honorable tradition of the Croatian Medical Association, medical science and healthcare in the Republic of Croatia. He participates in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Medical University in Zagreb, Osijek and Mostar and the University of Dentistry in Zagreb and at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb. He is the author and co-author of several of academic textbooks (“Diseases of the urogenital system” ,”Clinical Oncology”, “Prostate cancer” , “Supportive and palliative treatment of cancer patients” and “Clinical Oncology II”). Prof. Ružić was the editor of the Book of Abstracts of the 5th Croatian urological congress with international participation. He is a member of the Croatian Association of Urology where he served as a secretary and a treasurer and a member of the Board of Croatian Society of Oncology. Since 2010. Minister of Health and Social Welfare appointed prof. Ružić a member of the Board examination commetee in Urology. He gave lectures at a number of professional meetings, symposia and congresses in the country and abroad. He mentored two master’s theses, one doctorate and a number of medical and nursing colledge students.

Viktor Peršić, MD, PhD

Viktor Persic, M.D., Ph.D., was born in 1967 in Rijeka. He became a specialist of internal medicine in 1999, and specialist in cardiology 2009. Since then he permanently acts as a specialist in internal medicine-cardiologist at the Specialized hospital for medical rehabilitation of cardiac, pulmonary and rheumatism diseases – Thalassotherapia Opatija where he hold the position of Head of the Clinic for treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of heart diseases and blood vessels. In year 2014 he became the general manager of the Hospital.

His professional activities also include, along with continuing education in top European cardiology institutions (Institute of Cardiology in University Hospital, Bologna, Sophia Antipolis Heart House in Nice, Hammersmith Hospital in London, and University Hospital in Essen), independent action in comprehensive noninvasive cardiac diagnosis with particular emphasis on transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging of the heart. Under the leadership of Viktor Peršić,M.D., Ph.D., cardiac activity of the hospital – Thalssotherapia Opatija, significantly improve the scope and quality of services, gained recognition in professional circles with special emphasis on the development of new services, notably the creation of a center for imaging in cardiology. It also is an active participant in public health campaigns dealing with the popularization of the measures for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He has participated in many professional and scientific conferences and has led numerous organizational committees of the Croatian echocardiographic symposium with international participation as well as the organizational and scientific conferences of the Croatian Society of Cardiology. Viktor Persic, M.D., Ph.D., possesses many years of teaching experience in the field of cardiology in courses in Internal medicine at the School Of Medicine –  University of Rijeka and Osijek, as well as important scientific research results. Since 2008, holds the position of Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the School of Medicine – University of Rijeka. He is an active member of the Croatian Society of Cardiology, a member of its Board of Directors and Chairman of the Working Group for rehabilitation and prevention of cardiovascular diseases of the Croatian Society of Cardiology.
